My 76 F100 has some hacked up wiring in the rear that is causing issues with my turn signals. If I wire the sockets up how they are supposed to be, I have turn signals, and tail lights but no brake lights. Wired up with the two hot wires switched I have no signals, but tails and brake lights.
I'll try and get pics asap of the wiring "hacks" that my PO did, but suffice it to say that the rear signal wiring is toast and is going to need replaced I'm sure.
Any suggestions on what may be causing the issue other than the obvious hacked up wiring, please let me know!
What is it with the tail light wiring on these trucks!? I went through the same thing fixing all the switched wires in my 78 f100 except mine was hacked around the transmission.. then in my 78 super cab there was an alligator clip under the dash that caused no lights when ugrounded..
but anyways, stick with it desperado, you'll be surprised at how glad you'll be when everything starts working correctly again
I figured that it would be the turn signal switch, but I do have something else to add to my original post. The turn signals are only "odd" on one side, the passenger side is the side where I only get tail/turns or brake/tails but not all three functions. The drivers side works perfectly.
Mike, I appreciate the link for the tail light harness, I'll have to get that when I get the turn signal switch. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it!
Just to conclude this thread, I figured out what my issue was. I dug around through my spare parts collection and found two other signal sockets. Swapped those out for the ones on the passenger side of the truck and once again I have properly working signals! It still required me to create a new set of grounds on the passenger side...but well worth the investment in time.
Saves me the headache of pulling the turn signal switch and I'm extremely happy with that!
