Ok so taking off cover on heater core , the heater core is smokin hot. With the cover on loose tons of hot air that escapes is smokin hot? Why is it not recirculating to rest of vents?
With my hand in there there's a fan and when I adjust dial from hot to cold the temperature in there changes too. This is just pissing me off now.
either blend door is stuck... but you said you confirmed operation earlier in the thread....or maybe nest from mice blocking.. I seen that in evaporator job I did on F350...anything is possible... but I find it strange return hose is not as hot either if core is as hot as you say
all the blower/fan you called it does, is to blow the air through core and air gets heated doing so and continues to push through the vents....sure the hot/cold switch is working?
lol...now what in the heck made the battery die?? You just can't win with this thing! SMH
Yeah hot cold switch works with my hand in that area with cover off. It's just not getting to vents. There's a vacuum solenoid thingy that opens the air door but my battery is dead from having it on ignition and daytime running lights, plus door open and cargo light on and glove box light.
Dark now. Try again tomorrow
with the heater cover off, look in slightly to the left. that is where the blend door is.
when you turn the **** from hot to cold, you should be able to see the cable move the blend door arm freely through it arc on top of the door.
if it does not, remove the core and reach in there to the door and force the door while moving the ****. there may be something jambing the door. i had the same thing last year on a 96 F-superduty. once i got the blend door to move the heat would cook you out of the truck. before, it was an icebox.
With the cover off I can change it from cold to hot and watch that lever move. Seems to function that way.
Now here's something I just noticed. Behind the heater core box in the back right corner there is an opening in the sheet metal and I can actually see the fan spinning. Is there a cover for this?
Seems like on the otherside of hole there's a foam seal. Maybe this is the problem?
yes. it diverts air from AC mode to heat mode.
if the door does not fully close, you will not get any heat.
that is why i had to pull hte core on the F-superduty and reach in to pop the door closed.
i am not sure whar was keeping it for closing because this is a snow plow truck only, and th ac is disconnected. so i got the door closed and the boos took the **** off to make sure it stayed that way.
nut i did test it a few times before putting it back together and it worked fine from hot to cold.
what happens is that the defroster vents are big enough to let stuff fall down in and jamb up the door.
When I reach into towards door I can feel it . Cold dial it opens and hot it closes but not all the way there's still about 1 1/2" still open and on the face of it there is a foam strip so I assume it makes a seal if it's fully closed
Ok so after being determined to get this fixed I went out still in my pajamas and pulled heater core to inspect blend door issue. After removing h/c I put my hand in there and probed around while also turning hot/cold dial.
Wasn't fully closing like I say. Couldn't figure it out at first . Then I reached deep at the base with an awkward as hell reach and I felt something. Felt like a screw or something. Barely managed to pull it out and voila .... It was a pen!!!!!!!!
So this was stopping the door from fully shutting all this time.
At least now my cooling system is flushed and performing mint with proper anti freeze.
I was getting nice hot air now to the vents. Only thing now is when it's blowing on high the temperature dial won't go below middle range until I turn blower off, wait a sec, then it will. It's gotta be a vacuum solenoid holding it up as it has the one second delay.
Maybe I'll sort that out. I'm just happy it works!
damn pens. it happens way more than you think.
i am pretty sure the one i did at one time had a soda spilled in the vents that turned to the glue that stuck the door.

Yay!! I'm so glad!! I can't believe how much BS you had to go through!! And it was finally fixed while you were in PJ's!! LOL Awesome!
