The gauges in my 76 f250 where sagging and not looking proper through my dash panel so I took it off and the instrument panel backing is rotten there is no saving it along with the circuit board that the gauges are connected on. I need to replace these any suggestions I want to stay fairly cheap and don't like the aftermarket round gauge look too much
The backing and pc board are both available aftermarket. Dennis Carpenter, National Parts Depot and LMC all carry them.
This is a fairly common problem with the instrument cluster. The backing was made of a composition material that after a few years would basically turn to dust. The new and reproduction pieces are made of an improved plastic.
If you want to go the salvage yard route, the same basic cluster was used in the Econoline vans up through the eighties.

I pulled one once and it turned to sand before I could get it past the steering wheel.. then i have been to the junk yard and found them like new .. but like mike said the new replacements are better plastic so if you decide to rebuild it it'll stay with you another good 30+ years..
