1976 F250 Instrument Cluster

Hi all, I'm new to this forum.

I have an old 1976 F250 4x4 High Boy or camper special or whatever the official term is... Anyway, it's an old beat-up ranch truck but still runs fine.

I'm in the process of slowly trying to get it road worthy for my son who is in love with this truck and want's to drive it when he's ready...he's only 12 now so we have time.

I have removed the instrument cluster some years back to find the white part crumbling terribly and either need to replace it with new part from a place like LMC or possibly find a good used one. The part number on the back is D5TF10C956 AA. I have found a few on ebay that are complete and look good, and they state they are not crumbling or deteriorating. My question is what causes some to crumble or will they all crumble eventually. I'm trying to decide if I should piece together all the replacement pieces made with newer material or if i'm okay finding a good used assembly.

Thanks!

The ID engineering number on the printed circuit board is D5TF-10C956-AA
D5TZ-10K843-A .. Printed Circuit Board-Use with Oil/Amp GAUGES / Marked D5TF-10C956-AA / Obsolete

1975 F100/350 before serial number W40,001.

If you do in fact have a 1976, the instrument cluster has been swapped from a 1975, because 1976 uses a different printed circuit board.

To verify the year, post the last 6 digits of the VIN from the title/registration, not from the VIN that is stamped on the Warranty Plate.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1975/79 F100/350 - 1975/80 Econoline - 1978/79 Bronco instrument cluster backs were made of a composition material that can TURN TO DUST before your very eyes!

1981: FoMoCo came out with hard plastic cluster backs for Econolines, these were also the "service part replacements" for the POS 1975/80 turn to dust cluster backs.

E1PZ-10848-A .. Hard Plastic Cluster Back-Use with Oil/Amp GAUGES / Obsolete

1981/91 Econoline, service part replacement: 1975/79 F100/350 - 1975/80 Econoline - 1978/79 Bronco.

Carpenter has 100's of these cluster backs NOS, but if you find a 1981/91 Econoline, you can use its hard plastic cluster back...but not its printed circuit board.

There were two different printed circuit boards used in 1975 with Oil/Amp GAUGES.

1976/79 F100/350 - 1976/91 Econoline - 1978/79 Bronco with Oil/Amp GUAGES use a different printed circuit board: D6TZ-10K843-B marked D6TF-10C956-BA

NOTE: Oil/Amp WARNING LAMPS use different cluster backs and printed circuit boards than with GAUGES.

What I heard is the changed the formula for the plastic, I got one out of an 80's van and swapped my gauges into it, it was like new and didn't have any of the issues of the old one (and so much cheaper then a new replacement)

They didn't change the formula, because the POS TURN TO DUST cluster backs are not plastic .. see post 2.

I've typed this instrument cluster back info over 500 times here on FTE since 11/04/2006.

Thanks for the quick replies.

So to verify, I should find one of the newer cluster backs as mentioned but I will need to use my existing style printed circuit board (2.5" long connector with 18 pin plug). My current PCB needs to be replaced.

1975's use two different printed circuit boards with Oil/Amp GUAGES than 1976/91. Since you say your truck is a 1976, the instrument cluster has been swapped from a 1975.

But, is it really a 1976? Post the VIN to verify the year.

D5TZ-10K843-A .. Printed Circuit Board-Use with Oil/Amp GAUGES / Marked: D5TF-10C956-AA / Obsolete

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 2 = 800-543-4959.

HIGH BUCK! BOB ALLEN FORD in Overland Park KS has 3 = 800-676-0675. This dealer is a 'snake' .. wants MEGA BUCKS for obsolete parts.

So these replacements you just listed are actual new OEM parts?

Thanks a Ton!! It makes more sense now because looking at used units on ebay, the 1976 clusters didn't match what I had but the 75's did. I know somewhere back in this truck's history it had been wrecked and was fixed before my dad purchased it as a hunting truck in South Texas.

Sorry, here is the last 6 of the VIN on the title.

Scroll down to Numerical Sequence of Assembly / 1976: A00,001 - D25,000.

I have a couple of spare clusters sitting around. I can take a look at them and see what I have.

I have also found an aftermarket PCB at LMC Truck but they show two different part numbers for the 1975 F-SERIES depending on I believe the serial numbers -W40000 or W40001-.

The problem for me is since this is not the original for my truck I can't go by the numbers. I'm trying to figure out what the difference between the two is so I can order the right one.

I did call Green Sales and they do have 2 as you say but they didn't indicate there were potentially two variations.

This is the 3rd time I've posted this part number, its ID number (and stated before serial number W40,001) in this thread.
This one is wrong: D5TZ-10K843-C .. PCB-Use with Oil/Amp Gauges / Marked: D5TF-10C956-CA

1975 F100/350 from serial number W40,001 & 1975 Econoline.

btw: LMC does not use Ford part numbers in their catalogs, while Dennis Carpenter does.

Mass confusion is the result when repro parts sellers use their own "made up" part numbers instead of using "the real thing."

10K843 printed circuit boards =

Thank you again and my apologies for not reading your responses more carefully. It appears a lot of text was copied/pasted from a parts inquiry and at first didn't make complete sense to me but I understand it now.

EVERY one of my 55,678 + posts I've typed, none are linked from other posts.

Other members do this, but not I.

Post 7: Green Sales has 2 OEM (NOS) printed circuits, Bob "Snake" Allen has 3 / OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer ~ NOS = New Old Stock.

Bill,

I just ran across a complete instrument cluster removed from an 1990 E150 Econoline. So per your first reply, I can use this but just need to swap the pcb with the correct one.

The only other difference I see is mine has "Brake" and "Low Fuel Economy" indicators and the Econoline has "Seat Belt" and "Brake" indicators. So I assume using the correct pcb and switching out the little green & red indicators would be all I needed to do.
