2002 v6 110k miles. Oil leaking from front of engine. I replaced the pan gasket recently. I think it is now the front/timing chain cover seal(s). How hard is the repair. I am well stocked with tools and reasonable DIY skills. Any thoughts/ advice/ pitfalls?
Just standard stuff as long as you don't mess with the timing chain & sprockets. I believe it can be done 'in car' if you want. The gasket set may come with a set of short chunks for the pan portion that is under the front cover. You would use RTV silicone {cat safe!} at the 'corners' where the three surfaces meet on re-assembly.
I think there may be a question about the crankshaft damper/pulley. I don't know if it comes with a woodruff key, or it must be positioned at TDC to 'time' the CKP sensor pickup. The 4 is a lot more touchy to take apart from what I have seen in the shop manual.

before you dig in to deeply, clean the motor and watch around the damper for the seal. with high miles they tend to dry out and crack and or wear a grove into the damper making the need of a new one a most.it is the most common leak in every brand car or truck that I've seen.
If the damper has a groove, you may be able to fit a sleeve over the grooved area and have a new surface to seal against. Aftermarket kits are available for some, but I haven't looked any deeper than that. I expect the sleeve is possibly glued to the original damper. I don't know if the damper is turned to reduce the diameter or how the thickness of the sleeve is accomodated, but they sell them.

Let me just say this... timing cover leak rh bank at T joint is very very common, and is the source of your leak. In doing this job you must replace the valve cover gaskets, timing gaskets obviously, and crank seal. So as you can see all the oil leak points will be seal with new gaskets anyway. Also you will need the intake gaskets. There is allot to this job, but its all easy stuff. You gave me an idea to do a video on this common problem on the next one that comes in the shop.
