Well, you see, we have a 2008 ford f-250 with the 6.4 powerstroke... Had the radiator issue... well, this is now the 3rd radiator.... Put the "T" from the Degas bottle.... Well I have a problem with it over heating. We have replaced the thermostats, as one was bad... all was fine and dandy... let it idle for 30 mins. and didn't overheat or anything. So he decided to take it on a good test drive, went through the city... everything was normal... so decided to take it down the highway @ 70..... well within 10 miles it started to overheat... pulled over, didn't shut it down, just let it idle for a few mins. temp went back to normal.... I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY!! WE NEED OUR TRUCK!!!!

Couple things come to mind. When u replaced the stats did you get all the air out of the system. it takes a while.
What is coolant level first thing in the morning, should be between the cold fill lines.
is the coolant the ford gold and a 50/50 mix with DISTILLED water?
Have you ever checked the nitrate level of the coolant? Should be checked each oil change and coolant additive added if needed.
When you over heated did you look at the degas tank, what was the coolant level then. Should have been well above the cold fill lines.
Did it puke out the cap? Did you pressure check the cap, the 08 stock cap is junk, get a new one. Cap should hold 16 PSI.
have you pressure tested the system. Should hold 16PSI. If the coolant is low or the pressure won't hold, the boiling point will drop as much as 45 degrees. That would make the truck overheat.
I guess you are looking at the dash temp gage, that thing is crap, get a temp guage. if the dash guage showed hot the truck was really hot, fan should have been sounding like an airplane, was it?
i just spent a couple months chasing coolant problems and in the end they were only a couple small exterior leaks. hope this helps.
We replaced the fan clutch because the fan was not cycling like it should. Well, we still have the overheat issue. I took it to the next town about 5 miles down the road, I lest as soon as I started her up, not giving a chance to warm up at idle. When I got there everything was good, so I turned around to come back. Well, about half way back she started to overheat, I slowed down thinking it would cool down quick like before, but it stayed hot! I stopped on the side of the road and it finaly it started to creep down. When starting to over heat, It crept a little past half and then the fan engaged and it went down a very little and stayed for a few seconds and then went past. We will check the cap, but now I am starting to wonder about a water pump? It shouldn't heat up that fast!
if you changed your radiator hoses you should look in your old hoses and there should be a spring in one of the old ones to keep it from colapsing when under load you need to put the spring in the new hose or talk to the dealership ( when i say talk i mean cuss out for bieng incompetent mechanics) to put it in. i cant remember if it will collapse sitting still but rev it up sitting still and look if it will colapse and squeze the two hoses one hose should have a spring in it
Yes, that sounds like a good possibility. Something is happening when you are under power that stops when you go to idle. You say coolant is not leaking, right? Water pump blades also sound like a possibility. I tell ya, these trucks are just too complex. Strange things can happen with them.
We took off the water pump.... This was our problem!! The impeller was shot! Thank yall so much for the help!! So it turns out that we had 2 different problems acting against each other! We will hopefully be able to get the new water pump on today and be back on the road!!!
