just this morning, truck started running like poop. it acts like its running on 7 cylinders or less. I have NO warning lights on the dash, the engine oil is clean and at the proper level.
I thought it might be an injector at first, but driving it around I have slightly more black smoke from the exhaust than normal. I am wonder if it lost compression on one cylinder?
Before you start worrying about a dead cylinder I would have the codes read to see if you have a cylinder contribution/balance code, you would be amazed at how bad they will run with one bad injector. You could start it and unplug one injector at a time and see if you can find the one that isn't contributing. Base engine problems are very rare on these engines, so unless you have been using ether to start her up I wouldn't be worried about compression I would be looking for a bad injector. You should also pull and clean the EGR valve and make sure it is not stuck open.
half way home it started running normally again. guess I got some trash when I filled up with fuel Sunday night. Going to replace the fuel filter and see what happens.
finally found my code reader... P0261 stored for injector #1 low circuit voltage
Check your FICM voltage. The code says that the FICM detected an open injector circuit or defective coil. It could also mean the start of FICM failure but typically you get a whole bunch of low voltage codes when that happens. Sometimes you get nothing.
