Well reringed my egr valve and that seemed to help for a day or so then the smoke at startup came back up, kind of a light bluish grey maybe and smells like normal exhaust maybe slightly stronger but its not coolant. Coolant level is good, egr isnt wet, passed the bubble test in the filter housing, runs fine other than the smoke which lasts til around the time it warms up but you can see it on the first couple of gear changes when you drive it. I have checked down pipe for oil and it was good so that rules out the turbo seal. The bubble test rules out injectors. Also unhooked the egr valve before cranking and that didnt change anything. What other options do I have. I am coming up on an oil change, im within a 1000 miles of it being due so I might just change it just to see. Also I have a thought, I had a smoke issue about the same right before it hydrolocked due to the copper washer burning out on an injector about a year ago and I reringed all the orings on the passenger side, ruled out which one by the balloon test. Havent done the balloon test this time since I read that the bubble test is the same thing and more accurate. Now tell me if this is possible, since I havent ever done anything with the drivers side injector bank, could an oring on the upper part of the injector leak some causing fuel to get down into the cylinder and its burning it out or would the bubble test catch this. I thought the bubble test checked for a stuck open injector but if fuel was leaking by an oring would it still be detected. I went ahead and bought 4 oring sets as something to atleast try but havent had time yet. I do have a couple of dtc's but my normal code reader wont pick them up since there is no cel showing and I dont have ae so Im pretty much at the mercy of the dealership if I wanna get those read. Im running out of things to try and kind of scared to really drive it although its running ok. The only time it started running real bad was just before I put new orings on my egr valve cause the orings on it were in pretty bad shape and that seemed to have cured the miss and rough running. Now I did notice that it has been a little harder to start the past couple of times but id say 3-5 seconds max where its normally just a couple but it hasnt been driven in almost 2 weeks so that may be why. Thanks for the help and any ideas.
The Bubble test checks for BOTH a BAD Injector spool valve stuck on and also any SEAL Leak that would let fuel into the cylinder. If either one those bad Cylinder pressure will push air into the fuel Rail.
Sounds like your going to pull injectors out soon????
If you do put a vac pump with rubber hose on each injector tip Good ones will Hold Vacum bad ones will pull air threw and wont hold Vac pressure
It would be a Good Idea to find out what codes/DTC you have so anything can be addressed when you dive in it might even show your problem
Post in your area chapter try and find someone with a AE that would be willing to scan for you
