I have a 01 f350 that has been to 4 different ford people one of which was a trouble shooter for ford and no one can figure this out hoping someone ha shad this issue. It is going in and out of overdrive no trans codes no lights and I told the computer is commanding it to do so but no one can tell me why it's commanding it to. Has anyone had or heard of this before. Thanks a million Glen
Yes it has a program In it It's not down shifting like if you hit the od button just a couple hundred rpm's I will look some more. I have a little more hair left to pull out. Lol
Sorry it's only dropping a couple hundred rpms almost like its slipping but it only does it when at driving speeds around 55 or so and sometimes when it happens and you stand in it it will still do it on the acceleration I'm thinking its the petal or computer. But I'm just guessing from what I being told once again thinks for the help
does the "od off" light pop on when this happens?
if it is only dropping a couple rpms, sounds like the converter is dropping out of "lock up". very well could be a bad converter and the pcm is unable to recognize it. otherwise the chip is screwing with the pcm's lock up commands.
if the "od off" light comes on, or flickers then i would wonder about the od cancel switch, i have seen those break off of the shifter, sometimes peaple "fix" them by gluing them back in but there is still damage to the button or wires.
that is all i can think of right now.
I have checked it with the program out and still the same result and there is no light I can't figure out why the computer would be commanding it to do it. Like its got a load on it
This is how my tuner works, not saying it's your problem or if it will be any help to you.
When the speed limit is 55 mph I dread having one of those inconsistent idiots infront of me that like to go between 50-60 mph. My truck drops out of od at 53 mph and jumps back in at 54 mph. So when I'm behind someone that I explained already it gets very irritating and nerve racking. Rpms up rpms down rpms up and back down and back up..... And back down.
I mention this only because you stated it only does this at speeds around 55. For all we know your truck could have a reflashed pcm causing it to do the same thing my truck does. And because you have told us almost nothing about your truck I'm guessing just like everyone else here
I have 37x14.50 and 6" of lift it just started this I have owned the truck for 10 yrs even be for when I pulled my boat which is a 33 ft donzi it never went in and out of od this much is not just at 55 it just seems to start around there guessing because that's average luck up speed it will also do it at 60+ or so is there anything else I can tell you that will help just let me know because this has been going on for 3 months and it will make my transmission over heat luckly I have a second truck But no fishing till this one is fixed.
This is where a scan tool would be a huge help. Observation is one thing, but a brief glimpse at Torque Converter Slip would say volumes. One other thing is your Exhaust Back Pressure sensor - this tells your PCM what the load on your engine is. If that sensor is gummed up or just reading wrong, you can get all kinds of issues while the PCM tries to compensate for a "false load".
Scanning for codes isn't going to help you. You've already said there are no codes. We get it.
What you need to diagnose this is a scan tool that can read live data. You can look at the inputs and outputs of the computer and see WHY it is doing what it is doing.
If you can't get one of these tools, or don't want to, there is another way. I'll list all the parts on the truck and you change them until the problem goes away or you run out of money.
Those are the only two methods I know of to fix this.
