Dealer told my folks the OBS trucks are finicky when trying to unlock with a key. The driver's side needs to be jiggled to unlock. The passenger side won't unlock/turn. Is this a known issue and is there a fix?
not a known issue iv ever experienced with either of mine.you can take the door apart and see whats up with them or simply replace them.
having removed and installed them for my body/paint work i could take a shot in the dark as to whats up though.you may find the drivers side has an issue with the metal clip that holds the cylinder.this clip is removed from the side of the door.
the pass side either rusted up from lack of use or perhaps the plastic clip that holds the rod on broke in a way that has made it bind and unable to turn.
they are removed and replaced fairly easily.i broke a plastic clip that holds the rod on.had to grab a used one as doorman parts universal pack was all older/different ford trucks.
I had the same issues with having to wiggle the key to get it to unlock, then it was very hard to turn, felt like you were going to break the key. (this is on a brick nose), I took the lock out and sprayed with some general silicon lube and that made a night and day difference, no jiggling the key anymore.
For the stiff turning, I pulled the lock motor out and cleaned all the dried up hairy grease and re greased with a light weight grease.
I can't believe how much of a difference that made on mine, should of done it ages ago, I believe the obs uses the same lock motors and probably the same old dried up grease in the lock cylinder, Try cleaning it and see what it does, only have a bit of time to lose.
Pick up a can of lock eze, it does wonders to keep these locks working correctly, it is a combo spray comprised of graphite and light oil, you spray it directly into the lock via a small red tube included with the can when you purchase. Cheap insurance to keep them working right and not freezing in winter.
