got me one of them $50 buk scanners. Well, yesterday, a buddy called complaining his CEL was on. SO, went over and thinking, this cheapo wont read it, but sure enough, pulled the P1280 code, ICP pressure..etc. Knowing from experience of reading threads, had him pull the icp sensor plug and sure enough, oil filled.... He got a new one this morning.

I've been trying to tell this to people for a year now. I got a $50 autozone scanner for xmas one year. Its pulled and cleared every code that has set a CEL. After hooking up the AE I did find other codes, but they were all silent codes and none set the CEL. Everytime I've had a CEL I have used my el cheapo, pulled the code, fixed the problem and cleared it. Worked every time.

Me and EmpireTC went back/forth about this scanner. At the time of purchase, was able to pull an "EBP sensor low" problem, when we replaced THAT sensor on buddys truck. AEnded up being, was not tight enough to the tube. Tightend it up, cleared code and bam, no more code...I think though, Empire could not for the life of him, get the same scanner to read anything...

nope. didn't work worth a crap on the 99 or a buddy's 01. worked on cars just fine. returned it.
then tried BT OBD scanner with the Torque app. It is really cool and works well on several vehicles, but not worth a crap on older powerstrokes. really like the cool factor and the package cost ~$15 so it was a keeper.
finally ended up getting a VIN locked SuperChips 1705 for ~$10. That works well.
Have tried the el cheapo scanners and couldnt see anything.
Torquepro killed my ignition every time i attempted to connect.
Tried the 100$ jobber from harbor freight that does all the data logging and more fancy stuff...
With that one i can actually see a reading for vehicle speed... but thats all... and it doesnt work...
Just read zero...
02+ are obd2...
Pre 02 speak their own secret language.
Can't say much - I dunno WHO I let use my dongle and now I don't have one anymore!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE the little ScanGaugeII. These can be found as low as $120 on sale sometimes and not only read/clear any code that sets SES lite - it will display nearly every parameter the PCM monitors and displays (4) parameters at a time!
I literally grab this any time I get in a PSD and tell the owner what his ICP, IPR Duty Cycle, etc, etc. is. AE only comes out if we need a buzz test or something.
A friend was showing me the latest version of Torque on his '01 F250 and it does a LOT!!! Specifically, the data logging sounds impressive and the mapping stuff is cool too. Wish I could find my dongle...............
