I want to get a code reader for obd2 vehicles. Looking for something cheap that will work with most to all makes. Autozone has one on sale for $50, I think it can be had cheaper online though. It's an Actron I believe. Opinions?
do you have a smartphone? if so get one of those dongles that connects to it via bluetooth, and download the app. most of them are fairly cheap but still have better features such as live data and freeze frame data, buying a scanner without them is near pointless.
with that said, mode6 is the bee's knees, but you won't find it for that budget, and it takes some training/experience to decipher it.
I just bought an Innova 3020a to pull codes on my sons 2001 Cherokee. It was the cheapest reader that NAPA had in stock, somewhere a little under $50 if I recall. My opinions of it? It's a cheap code reader. The only other reader I've used was the one NAPA loans out. This one takes a lot longer to read the codes and it took some trial and error before it would read them at all (seems to work best if I turn the key on before I plug the reader in). If I was making a living with it I'd hate it. But since I just needed something that would read and clear codes, and I didn't want to spend any more than necessary, I got what I paid for.
Look at Launch code readers . I have a few of their products . For cheep they have a decent one in the $50 range . Step up a bit and you get data also . They have good scan tools also .
Paid about $18 for a bluetooth scanner that works with my Android tablet and phone. Downloaded the Torque app for $5. Works great, and does realtime gauges, data logging, etc...
I see a bluetooth device on amazon for $14 or so with mixed reviews. Thinking about trying it out. Any other input on going that route? My phone is an Android.
