One thing I think is if you pull the valve and find it has soot and clean then pull it
a week later and you find more soot you don't have a freeze plug welded in.

Cleaning the passages will not be a fun project. I would think that pulling
the intake would be the easy way Vs trying to scrape it out and suck it up.

Well i parked nose down last night ( the back tires were about 6" higher than the front) and pulled the EGR valve. i didn't notice any moisture in it and there is already carbon on the valve. So it must not be welded up.

well I ohmed the black connector on the GPCM tonight and

Pin #1 .09 ohms
Pin #2 64.7 ohms
pin #6 1.0 ohms
pin #7 1.0 ohms

so it looks like it is infact the glowplug so tomrrow i will get the 4 plugs ordered and the harness from Tousley ford. I had to get new tires and brakes for the truck today and new tires for the wifes Edge tomorrow so trying to watch my pennies for the intake and GP codes.

Well my 4 glow plugs and harness came in today and i got them switched out. I think which ever engineer designed the harness was having a bad day. I drained about 2 gal of coolant out and took out the degas bottle and the air filter and that gave me a decent amount of room to work in. I only broke two ends but was able to use bailing wire looped around the groove and pull them all out. I drove around for about 20 miles and no codes came on so hopfully that solved that.

I assume the P0401 will be back tomorrow so that will be next. I went ahead and order the intake manifold gaskets and they came in also today. as M-chan has said it looks like i will need to pull my intake and clean it. First my coolant/ oil temp delta is only 6-7 degrees after warmed up.
so my questions are while i have the intake out sould i
1. do anything to the oil cooler?
2. delete the egr and have gearheads tune out the code? i am in Arkansas and we do NOT do emission testing.
3. clean my turbo?
4. change to Riff Raff boots and change to the metal pipe?

I know this a lot but I would rather do it once than pull it all out 3 times. Thanks for all the help so far and look forward to the day i can help as much as some of you. have a good evening. Rhine.

If the oil cooler is OK. I think you can pass on that.
The turbo will be out in your hands and if your having
problems then do clean it or if you just want to do it.
EGR delete is up to you but this is the time to do it.
You are already there.
Same with the boots and pipe.

If you are going to pull the intake and egr cooler, I would either delete the cooler or replace it with an upgraded one from Bulletproof.

As for cleaning the intake, I use degreaser and a pressure washer. I would definitely take the turbo apart and clean it while it was out.

One other thing I thought of while you are in there is the EBP sensor. You may want to remove it and clean it and the tube.

Thanks for the advice, it looks like i won't be messing with the oil cooler so that is good. about 50,000 miles ago i added the blue spring and the coolant filter. but that was the last time the coolant was changed.

I will definatly look into the EPB sensor and add that to the list.

Blade, can you elaborate on the exaust gaskets, are these common to fail?

also with the turbo since this is my DD should i go ahead and get the unison ring just in case its bad?

as for the EGR cooler what are your thoughts on the IPR EGR GEN 2 delete kit with matt from gearhead tunes (SRL, 8K, Unlimited tow) NO STUDS

Thanks again for the help, have a good evening. Rhine.

The Gen2 kit is top notch. The up pipe flanges are thick and the fit and finish is great.

These are the humble words of MisterCMK sent on the go...
