Worked the 05 powerstroke a little harder than normal this weekend pulling small load 1500lbs.bout 75mph, wrench light came on at top of hill after down shift,no change in performance noticed, ect 213 eot 228 did not get tft before stopping it was 160 when i did, sg2 reads 3 dtc, but no scan code found, wrench cleared of course with key off. Any suggestions why sg2 wont read code? Btw wrench lite never came on again remainder of trip
When you see the wrench light, engine is derated (limp mode). One cycle of the ignition off and then back on should clear the light unless the condition still exists. A "soft" code will be set that most inexpensive code readers will not read. Likely causes are high oil temperature, over or under boost (sticking turbo) or FICM voltage low (as per the TSB I posted above). Most OBDII monitors will show oil temp, coolant temp, boost, and FICM voltage. You can monitor those to "figure out" which problem you have or go to a dealership and have it scanned.
I suspected oil temp but dealer read fuel sending unit which i already was aware of every tank of fuel it blanks out @1/2 tank and returns around 1/4 but no other codes found,Have to try to repeat this weekend I have scangauge monitor works great for what it is.Truck or scan gauge never gave any indication of limp mode just wrench lite.Ran great today no load but i guess i got to wait for failure on this one,she just getting broke in @145k,all stock with blu spring and well maintained $
Dealer , or a good private shop with the proper software . My Modis helps in these cases . If the wrench light was on , there should be a code that most inexpensive tools are not able to read .But , there should be a record of the code in the PCM .
Yep also just remembered had a vc 9 flush done early summer that stuff works good I'm suspecting oil cooler replacement near cant complain made it longer than most and thats a good thing right
i had that happen to me. This is what prompted me to buy gauges and find out my OIL temp was 15+ over my coolant. which prompted me to replace oil cooler......
Road tested this weekend no load wot oil temp 7to 14 deg. Delta . Loaded wot 15 to 30 delta wrench light is by no means a set temp came on twice at different deltas. Is this early stage oil cooler clogging or normal
