Just looking for info or links on a forties panel van (Parts/Vin Location/Pics/Etc...) we pulled it out of the bush and have no info on it all i can find is 444 on the driverside firewall. The motor has a Ford rebuild tag from 1958, so thats no help. We are trying to pin-point the year (have it narrowed down to early 40's) so pics or something would help. Thanks for any help. =]
Take a look in the pictures section of this site for the early 40's front end. If it's a panel truck, it'll have the same front end as a pickup truck, if it's a sedan delivery it'll have a passenger car style front end. Look on your frame rail, on the driver's side, around where the battery tray mounts. You should find some numbers stamped there. That'll be the VIN. With the VIN we can determine year, engine, and ton rating. The 444 is not a Ford VIN of anykind.
Ok I did the battery tray is on the passenger side. On the drivers side the only numbers I can find are at the front motor mount on the frame it is (star) 2B3257 (star) there is a star stamped before and after the number. Also it has the pick up front end.

Sounds like a '40-'41 then. If the headlights are int eh fenders, not on pods mounted to side of teh grille, then it's a '40-'41. I'm thinking the numbers you found on the driver's side is the VIN. The VINs I have seen for the '42-'47 all have the star before and after. Infortunatly I don't know the VINs for pre '42 off the top off my head, and all my books are packed up getting ready for my move. Hope I was at least able to narrow it down for you. Oh, and by the way, welcome to the site, lot's of folks here that can help you with your project.
Thanks a bunch that is what I've had it narrowed down to. This is a big help just knowing the vin number. I had looked and looked and couldn't find it, now I can start lookin for parts. The front end on are Panel is the same as the white pickup in your gallery Carlene. Thanks again for the help im sure ill be back a few more times with questions.
Hi, If possible, would you please forward a pic of your truck. I have decided to compile a photo collection of '40 to '52 Ford Panels and a 1942 would probably be the rarest of them all.
Thanks,
Drew
I am starting a process where I am trying to sell a panel van that has been in our family for years. It’s in great condition and I want to find someone that has a greater appreciation for the vehicle than myself.
please let me know if you are interested or have recommendations of where I start the selling process
Welcome to the forum. It's kind of a shame no one in the family wants to keep it in the family, but I understand not everyone is into old cars and trucks like we are. Just so you know your truck isn't really a panel van. It's called a Sedan Delivery. So when you advertise it, say it's a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery. It appears to have been very well done and whoever built it and owned it surely really enjoyed it, and spent a ton of time and money on it.
As for where to advertise it, you can start with the easy stuff like craigslist or marketplace. There's also Hemmings and Hagerty for classified ads that target hobbyists, or auction sites like ebay, or Bring a Trailer could be a good option for a truck like this. https://bringatrailer.com/how-bat-works/ Good luck with your sale.
