Codes in odometer window
Hi ,
Help?
Quite a while ago someone posted an article about holding down the trip meter button while turning on the key.
This would cause the window to show codes and listed the code sequence.
If I remember correctly it was for 99 to 2003 super duty with 7.3 diesel.
I saved it in my computer but it died.
I was not sucessful with a search.
Anyone have that listing.

Thanks Stewart H
I havent purchased the AE yet as I have had no problems and no money.
I will purchase it in the future.
I just remembered this trick and was going to test it out not looking for anything special just wanted to play.
I am retired former mechanic but not that farmiliar with this engin as I worked on construction equipment. With no problems and not able to help anyone yet I do log in and read the mail.
Thanks again

Here's what I have saved in my Lightning folder on my computer. I believe it's the same for all Ford digital read-outs, if they are so equipped to provide info.
Put the key in the ignition, but don't turn it on. Press and hold the trip reset button, then turn the key to the ON position.
Once the key is turned, after a few moments, the lights on the odometer read-out will change. Let go of the button when they change.
Once the read-out has changed, each press of the reset button will scroll through the menu.
If you press the button too long, it will clear out and go back to showing the mileage.
Scroll through the menu choices until you find one that says DTC.
If you have a code, it will say DTC2145 or something...OR DTC NONE for no codes
One of the menu choices is a digital RPM readout. Kinda fun to watch when you first find it.

The codes shown in that display are not the same as the ones you would pull from the OBD II port.
There is little information on them but from what I have been able to find they seem to be only electronic system codes and mostly just with the cluster itself.
Example; P0683 GPCM won't show up there. I know because I had that code.
You will also see other ones in there. Its all cluster diagnostics. PRND is your gear shifter, fuel, is fuel level etc. The values presented in these displays are arbitrary. For example fuel is not 0-100% its like 0-70 and it is stepped. Oil temp also isn't in degrees it's on a scale.
The displays are not readouts from the sensors, it is the value given to the gauge and compare it to the gauge to determine of the gauge is bad or the signal is bad. Make sense?
Some displays are accurate though. Speed, rpm and voltage are all true values.

You'll notice that the oIL in mine is reading 0000. If I remember correctly the DTC that I had in the video was a code for a connection issue in the cluster. It could very well be that the oil wasnt reading right. Or it could be not a feature included in my model as this test mode was used across many platforms. But if yours is showing it, mine should too.

I believe the oil one is oil pressure... If you never started the vehicle once in test mode, your oil reading will probably be wrong...
