DTC codes
Is there a way to get the dtc codes on your instrument cluster like you can with a Mustang? I have a 2002 Explorer XLS with the 4.0 and I just got an SES light. The truck has about 45K miles. I know on my 2000 Mustang GT I can hold down the instrument cluster reset button with the key in the ignition in the accessory position and it will go through a series of tests and then get to a point where it will give you DTC codes if any exist. I haven't tried this on my Explorer yet because I just remember it and I am at work so I will try when I get home but I was hoping for a quick answer from you guys. Thanks for any help.

For anyone interested this works. With the car off, you hold down the odometer trip reset button and then turn the key to the accessory position (not turning the car on). Hold it down and you will see all your needles sweep to the right and then come back down. The you will see a bunch of different info each time you hit the odometer trip reset button. There is tons of stuff there. Eventually if there are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes you will get a dtcXXXX the X's will be the trouble code. I got a 5284 and I am about to look it up to see what my problem is. Ofcourse this is only for those with the digital odometer read out. Enjoy this free diagnostic option!
