If so, have you also used the "drip tray" mentioned in the article? Where may I find the drip tray - I've tried to no avail and here I am. Should have come here first...
Here's what my project is looking like... Sorry for the cheap cell phone shots.
I just finished the bed wood project on my 55, but did not change the fuel tank or filler tube. It took me long enough to do the sanding, staining, sealing, and new installation as it was. Prior to doing the project I did watch and record a TV show Gearz with Stacy David from 8/13 where he was putting a bed on a Chevy truck and used a filler tube like the one from Ebay. His had a rubber-like/synthetic material sleeve that went over the tube which then slid over the gas tank fill tube. Didn't see any catch pan. The wood came from LMC Truck but it was not stated where the filler cap tube came from. This may not make much sense, but if you could view show on bed installation it might make more sense.
Thank you abeagle. Funny, I've seen that show...
Thank you Rob. Thank you.
Thank you Scott. Nothing like finding a diamond in the rough (more on that later) - but if you care Google Orvil Clements. Brilliant.
Perhaps next time I'll have my real camera with me for better shots. Meantime, here's another.
I used a keyed marine style cap and did not do a drip tray either. They sort of take away from the look. I did the tank similar to some of that article as well. I hung my tank frame below the trucks frame flush. Used a rubber fuel filler hose to mate with marine tube.
This is the only shot I have of it currently from topside and I have not started into doing my bed wood yet:
I have grown accustomed to checking FTE before checking my email (I'm not an FTE junkie, huh?).
Thank you for the suggestion - but most of all , thank you for the creativity! I think this too can be accomplished sir. Thank you thank you thank you.
Off to HF a little later to get that tray.
John, thank you.
