A few months back the batteries died on me while it was parked in front of my house, I replaced them and it would not start.(Drove it home fine a few weeks before and it sat) It gave me these codes. Po683 and Po670, I ended up replacing the glow plug control module and it fired up and has been running good since but I still have two codes, both are Po670. I am not sure if there is a glow plug problem or the wiring problem, is there any way of checking either without ripping half this motor apart?
I posted a short description on the Glow Plug system and some testing steps.
There was also some info on what wire goes to where. I'll have to do some
digging and find the link.
Thanks for the link. I haven't had a chance to look through it yet but hopefully tomorrow I will have time. So my symptoms are in the morning or afternoon when I go to start it it takes forever to get her going, like ten minutes of key on, key off crank crank crank, over and over again. Today I was able to finally clear the codes but within 30 seconds of starting it was throwing Po683 and Po670. I would think the GPCM would last more the=an two months but I guess I could be wrong. Last Saturday it started fine but on Sunday and everyday since it has been really hard starting.
If you have a wire into a crimp and then flex it over time
the strands do what is called "Work Harding" They then
start to break. You can also get some corrosion that will
increase the resistance of the connection (Green Fuzz).
In my cast the connector was not mounted the way it should
of been. It was dangling. That let it flex and that is where my
problem may be. Reason I say that is if I take the connection
apart and clean it I will not have a problem for a few weeks
or more.
I have the needed tools to disassemble the connector and
check the pins for damaged wires and green fuzz.
Haven't had much time at all to look at this truck, I am working long days and have been using the old reliable V10 to tow my tractor the last couple weeks. I did swap out the GPCM since it was still under warranty and now it starts better but I am still getting the codes. I need to read your link a little better to fully understand how to test each wire. Hopefully this weekend I can get an hour or two out there, until then I am going to leave her parked.
