Didn't find much anywhere, is there a way to trouble shoot that thing? Having hard starting issues when its chilly. I will troubleshoot the GP's in the AM. Thanks in advance.
I don't have the 03 book, but I do have the 01 book that talks about troubleshooting the GPCM. You have to get the codes, though. If there is anything wrong with it or the system, it should give you codes.
No check engine light, but all the symptoms of something being bad. Had to crank it over several times this afternoon and lots and lots of smoke when it finally started, plus bucking like a wild horse!!
If no codes for the GPCM, then I would suspect injector o-rings or poppet valves sticking. You can shim them for cheap, or replace the external o-rings for cheap. Still the same amount of time as replacing the injectors, though, if you take either approach. Try running synthetic or a thinner oil.

I just went through the whole glow plug replacement process along with the valve cover gasket assemblies. My 7.3 was slow to crank on chilly mornings like yours but with no more smoke than normal and no bucking like a wild horse.
I did have a wild horse bucking event once and it was the Cam Positioning Sensor. It was still under warranty and the dealer replaced it so I know zero about it. Hope that helps.

Hasn't done it since...finally got my Bluetooth adapter and android running on my tablet so I was going to check codes etc this week. Probably Thursday. This damn job keeps getting in my way!!
