I have a 2003 excursion with the V10. at the hunting camp I drove it into some water without knowing my neighbor had gotten stuck and left a BIG hole. It took an hour to pull it out with a tractor. The water was up to the floor boards. afterward the transmission would not shift past second. The OD light blinks. I left it for two days to dry out. Still no good.
Any suggestions on what I need to do to get it back going?
I had a similar issue on my 02' the codes were scary to look at! After the dealer told me I was looking at $2,600 in repairs I decided to disconnect my battery (for a full reset). Unplugged every harness in the vicinity of the previously wet area (one at a time) cleaned out with contact cleaner(about 1 hour taking my time). Hooked up battery (2hours later). All worked normal again! Call it luck or whatever but worked for me and just cost me a little time.
By the way, I drove back to dealer that following day and rubbed it in there face

Not luck, smart!
My mindset was, with codes scanned, it's possible the OP might have a better direction to address the water issue affecting whichever sensor might be affected.
Yours is a much better plan of attack since it provides better long-term preventive maintenance for each plug, connector, or sensor whether it's actively affected or not.
I tried to scan the codes but the scanner came back the it was not connected. I thought it may be the scanner so I tried the one from auto zone. Same problem. The plug is not getting power.
Next I unhooked the battery for 2 hours so it could reset. same thing no connection. While the battery was disconnected I got underneath and checked and cleaned each plug I could find. I have not changed the fluid yet but when I checked it it was not cloudy.
After all this I gave it a brief test drive, same problem will not shift out of 2nd.
With the scanner not reading does this point to a computer problem? And if so is it related to the transmission problem or a whole other headache?
I would like to pin down what is going on so I can target my efforts, but I am stumped on how to go about that.

This was exactly what I was thinking...
Head to the autoparts store, pick up some contact cleaner, and go to work.
If you got it that stuck, check all your wiring around the tranny. You may have had something hang on or crush the wires and or one of the harnesses. Then check all fuses.

Your fuse is probably burnt.
Find the fuse for your cig lighter/power point. It should be the same one for the OBD II interface.
Also, the parts store scanners won't read transmission codes. Unless you know someone with AutoEnginuity (where are you located?) you're going to have to pay to have the codes read.
Before you go do that though, get that fuse replaced so the reader can connect through the port.
