Starting to develop an issue where the trans will exhibit an extremely hard and abrupt shift every now and then- most only during the first couple hundred yards of driving and I think its the 1-2 shift. Only will happen once and only rarely but its becoming more frequent. I have an '11 5.0L supercab auto 4x4, but my father has a similar truck but with the ecoboost which does the same thing on a MUCH more frequent basis. He has been in numerous times with no resolution so I am loathe to expend the energy on "dealing" with them. Has anybody experienced this problem? Anybody solved it?
Yes, its happened to me. The trick is to let them warm up longer before taking off and it won't happen. If I don't get the time to warm up, I usually put it in manual mode and shift myself. It never slams then.

While I would find this an unacceptable design flaw in a vehicle designed for daily use in the consumer market I would find it an even larger design flaw if this is a problem in 70 degree or warmer weather. Makes me worry about what will happen this winter

Hi Buck268 and 04XLTRUNNER,
I suggest bringing your trucks to your local dealership so they can check this out. Once you get a diagnosis, touch base with me via PM if you need any additional assistance. Be sure to include your name, phone number, mileage, VIN, and dealership name/location; I'll do what I can to help.
I would have taken the truck in today but I do not feel like paying an hour worth of labor since a "cannot duplicate" would not be covered by warranty as it has been explained to me. I'll have to wait and hope it becomes worse before the powertrain expires.
Take it to the dealer. There is updated software to deal with your concern.
As for being charged for "no problem found" diagnosis, if you are under 3/36 you will not need to pay any labor. The technician gets paid under "NPF" time, billed to Ford.

OK, so in any case unless you had your software updated in the last few weeks there should be an update for you. So take it in and tell them you want the modules reprogrammed. Should cost you an hour of labor or less.
Heck, bring it to me in Livonia and I'll do it for free.
