A few weeks ago my rear door would not close properly. One side locked and the other was half stuck. I managed to give it a good kick and it closed completely.
When I tried to open it the handle was jammed?
So later I climbed inside, removed the liner and managed to get it open by pushing the rods. But now it was real hard to push open?
I then noticed that the top was binding on the roof and there's this big gap.
I parked it and ended up buying a 1993 E150 Van.
It will be my snowplow, but I am still wishing to fix this.
Today I took the hinges off and as far as i can tell they are not bent.
But I did notice there is a bit of slack for adjustment. But no matter where I put it there's this 1" or more gap...
Here's a picture . I hope someone has some insight as now it is not on the road so I can;t take it to a shop.
Yes the mystery is that everything checks out, there is absolutely no sign of anything being bent of pulled or dented. The gap seems to get bigger every time I open the door too?
Ok, the body side of the hinge is two pieces, held together with rivets at a pivot point, and then held tight together with the mounting bolt. If the bolts are loose, the upper part can bend and slide against the lower part, moving the hinge adjustment out. You may be able to get it back by having someone lift on the outer lip of the gate while you tighten the bolts (or remove the struts and support on the bottom lip with a piece of 2x4).
