Ignition Problems
Ok, so here is the deal..... I have a 1986 Bronco 5.0 4 speed manual EFI. I first noticed a couple of weeks ago the ignition cylinder had a little wiggle in it while in the run position and it would sometimes not turn on accessories such as radio, rear window, etc. A little jiggle and no problem everything worked. Yesterday, I started having issues where after starting, when the key was released and snapped back into the run position it would immediately die. If I slowly eased the key back to the run position after starting it would continue to run. Any little jiggle and it would die. Today it was much worse and I could only keep it running with positive pressure on the key keeping it in the run position. I tore the steering apart and removed the lock cylinder and replaced it... no change. So I am assuming it is the actuator. Problem is, the parts stores around here all want to sell me an actuator that is about skinny about 4-5" long and has a crescent shape at the steering wheel end that goes around the steering column and the rod connects to the actuator at the top of the crescent. My actuator is about 3/4" wide and sits along the top of the steering column and the rod connects at the end (dash side). I have a non-tilt column. Am I at least along the right path, and if so, why can't I find the right piece?
