2008 250 SD 6.4 all stock 77k miles. I have had numerous EGT sensor codes. Is this normal? Can I just clean and reinstall? Are these still covered under the emissions warranty or the engine warranty? Thanks
I had one replaced under the 3 yr/36k warranty. It threw another light, but I had it cleared. Went to dealer to see if it would still be under the engine or emission warranty and they said no. It threw a third light, but it went out on it's own. My car guy says it could just have been a bad voltage reading. Now it has thrown a light again and both the codes above are there. First light about 30K, second 55K, third 75K and last 77K.
Our 2008 F350 just threw these both, too... used the Edge to clear them, just in case it was a unique operating condition that caused it. They came back 3 days later, under a totally different operating scenario.
An internet search suggests there are covered under the 100k powertrain warranty, as this is potentially an emissions control issue.
We have an extended warranty anyway - we bought the truck used and have since put ~6k miles on it (it's close to 60k now). I plan to have the dealer fix it this week.
Thanks TinaT99, I pressed my Ford dealer about the warranty and they said not covered. I cleaned the two front EGT sensors, swapped them and put some of my special goop in the electrical connectors. I cleared the codes and about 4k driven with no comebacks. Of course now that I have said this I will get the light tomorrow.
