Got a quick question for anyone who might have an answer to this. I recently installed (as in I done the installation work. lol) a complete sound system in my 2001 F-150 XLT Supercab. The truck is still under the manufacturers warranty 3yr/36,000 miles until June 17th of this year. Tonight my "Service engine soon" light came on, and I want to take it down monday to the dealer to see if they will put it on the computer, find out whats wrong with it, and fix it. but what I want to know is, with me installing the system, did that invalidate the manufacture's warranty on the truck?? I didnt touch any of the trucks internal wiring other than replacing the door speakers and hooking the amp to the battery terminal. I would just like to know before I take the truck down there. Thanks
No, shouldn't void anything. Now if you had installed a super charger or new heads, or a differnet tranny then yes. I even installed a suspension lift on one and it didn't void the warranty. Good luck. BTW, have you anyone pull the codes and see what it might be? Could save you a deductible cost if its simple. Autozone or Advance Auto will usually so thiws for free.
I agree with prcrboy. Go to Autozone and ask them to check the codes for service engine light. It's free. It may be something simple like an engine misfire. If it is, ask them to reset and see if it happens again.
No, havent had anyone hook it up to the code reader and find out what codes it will pull off the engine. But I am gonna run down to autozone tommorow morning before I go into work and have them do it. BTW, this morning I got up and disconnected the battery cable and reconnected it after a minute or so, and the light went off and has yet to come back on. Still gonna see if autozone will pull anything. better to get it fixed now while its under warranty
FYI cntryboy0531, I have a 2003 F250 CC with a complete system installed, 4 gauge wiring, dual amps, changed out stock speakers, and I'm running 2 12" subs. All that has been in my truck about 9 months. Dealer had to fix signal light switch as it burned out and they didn't say anything. As a matter of fact the service writter asked where I got my install done, cuz he had a 150 and was looking to put in some beats.
From what I understand, as far as the head unit goes, as long as you have an adapter that plugs into the stock harness to your new deck, you'll be fine. If you cut the stock harness and wired it directly, than there MAY be some issues.
