Differences in radiator hoses ?

I'm going to do a full coolant service on my 7.3L '01 Excursion (10/00 build date according to my door jamb sticker) and I will swap radiator hoses as part of it.

I've been looking at the Gates kit (includes both radiator hoses and a 'green' serpentine belt), but they have an interesting cutoff where they recommend one kit variant over another.

Part numbers
22434K 1999 - April 28, 2001 &
22690K April 29, 2001-2003

Solution Kits - Automotive Aftermarket | Gates Corporation

I've seen 99-00 and 01-03 differences, but I don't understand the specific April 28th, 2001 difference. The primary reason I ask is that one of my Ex's previous owners did significant rebuilding on it and build date alone may not be enough for me to determine what I need.

Any ideas?

It's possible the two kits account for the different lower hose types. Some water pumps have an elbow extension while others have just a short straight flanged tube.

OK, I'll bite, why the dislike for Gates? If nothing else, I've heard good things about their green, FleetRunner belt.

I agree with beechkid.. I worked at auto zone as a manager and had nothing but complaints with gates parts.. belts, hoses, and acc.. its over priced junk.. its a belt with stop sqeek on it. honeslty dont waste your money.. get oem parts.. they are more than enough to handle it..

Years ago Gates was a good solid brand, today, its the cheapest priced junk on the shelf.....IMHO....go with Goodyear (which isn't GY anymore but the QA is still excellent) or MC.
