One of the functions of that dual function resovoir is to provide a buffer for the high pressure pump so it doesn't suck air when in-tank fuel levels get low, so it's very possible you will experience fuel delivery problems if you completely eliminate it. For single tank trucks of this vintage that unit gets substituted with a single function resovoir. You could eliminate all this crap with a swap to a '90+ tank and fuel delivery module.
