Looking at getting a 2000-2004 ford f-250 or f-350 7.3 diesel 4x4 crew cab long bed.I dont want a dually.Don't these trucks come with dual tanks anymore.
I thought dual tanks were cool until I had a truck with 'em. After several years one of the sending units went bad. So, its just one more gizmo, switch, fuel pump etc to replace.
Purchase a tank for the rear of your tank if space is not an issue. You can either get a set up were its plumb into your existing system or just get a 12v pump to remove the fuel. I run a 133 gallon baffled aviation tank in the rear. It actually only holds 105 gallons with the baffles. I have a 12V pump and when I am in Anchorage I fill it up. Fuel is $0.65 cheaper so it does save me some money. I have it secured via 1/2 bolts on the front through the frame and metal straps over the top and running down the rear... If that is not the way that you want to go then you can get an aftermarket replacement tank in a larger capacity...
I had an '86 with the dual tanks and loved them. One of my tanks went bad and it took Ford a while to get a new one. No problem , I just kept driving until the new tank came in. If it had been a single tank, my truck would have been down for two weeks. Any one know why they gave them up?
I had dual tanks for 10 years on my 93 F-150 and they were great. I never had a problem with mine. Wish they were still available stock. It's an option that I would certainly select.

Same with my old 1995 F-150. The dual tanks never gave me any problems. In the winter I would leave the rear tank full for a little more weight on the rear.
I have a tank in the bed, but I put WVO (waste Veggie Oil) in it, so my diesel tank stays full much longer. plus it seems to help the motor with this low sulfer fuel these days that is killing injectors.
That 133 sure is nice. Fill it up and the truck tank , lets see 173 gallon with an 15 mpg average equals 2595 miles...
Scarry part for me is that home fuel oil is $0.15 higher than #1 diesel in Anchorage.
Back on track. I have been looking through some of the Deisel Mags and Truck Mags and they do have some pretty nifty aftermarket tanks in the 60 gal range. Just a thought.....

You are really lucky you have that WVO system. I only have 369,000 miles on my origanal injectors & expect this low sulpher fuel will kill them soon. Just hate to think what the ULTRA Low Sulpher fuel has been doing to them in the last few months.
