1st 5th tow coming up soon, anything (Superduty) to beware of?

We have decided on a trailer, found one, and have it locked.

We are off to Michigan to see a football game weekend after next (14th), and pick up the coach on the way back (16th).
Keystone Apline front bath. 2450lbs hitch (empty). 15,900 gvwr. 39ft. its got a Trailair Tri-Glide pin box installed. also has the G rated LT tires, so there is tire to spare.

I ordered a B&W Patriot hitch today, as I have the rails in the dually bed already. (its 16k rated).

for this trip at least we'll plug in over the tailgate.

have airbags, and the rancho adjustable shocks.

Anything else to think about? our 1st tow will be 1400 miles back home.
no generator at the moment so no 110v powered air tools!.

Never pulled a 5th before, lots of bumper haul trailers.. 29 travel trailer.

only have the 38gal stock lb fuel tank.

You're going to love the way the truck tows...We pull a 37 foot Hitchhiker that weighs right about 15000 loaded. You hardly know it's behind you. Used to pull a 34' triple axle Airstream, the 5er pulls easier... You might want to consider an auxiliary fuel tank if you're going to tow a lot. We have a 50 gallon Transfer Flow in the back of our truck and love it... Have fun.

If u can lock your pin clamp bring a padlock. Watch out for people trying to squeeze beside you on right turns hog the lane and leave room between your rigs tires and curb. Put your mirrors out. Have fun and post pics of the rig sam

When ever pulling into gas stations, parking lots or anything else always plan on a wide angle and a way out if something doesn't work out. They're much easier to pull into than back out.

You got a dually short bed ?!? Pshaw - you won't know it's back there...
and that's the danger

Check the air pressure in your tires,
remember to read the clearance signs
'swing out' on all curves ...
adjust the mirrors and extend them so you can see as much as possible...
for turns drive THROUGH the turn then turn so that the 5er swings and does not cut the corner...

when hitching LOOK at the pin to ensure it is around the middle of the pin...

don't ever be distracted or in a rush when hitching or unhitching... don't be afraid to walk around twice and look critically at what that other person forgot ! even if that other person is you!

don't get complacent when you figure out how really easy it is !!! good luck !

Boy I got experience with that one.. we bought this 29ft travel trailer.. off to DC, from Detroit, for a good summer educational trip.. (always something useful in the fun).

Sure I can pull THRU the Wendys.. NO problem.. uh crap.. really really, REALLY tight.. backup, pull forward, back up... repeat for 30 minutes.. phew!.. made it..

hm.. trailer feels like its 'pushing' me..
pull over on this dirt pull off on the Penn turnpike.. check it out..
sliced right thru the trailer wiring harness.. pushing.. yeh.. no brakes!!!.. kids were SURE we were gonna die on the side of the road, cars whipping by..

I had tools and repaired the harness, replaced the fuses and off we went..
never go into places I don't KNOW how to get out of..

thanks for the reminder.

Just a few based on my own experience...
Set your TBC gain accordingly before pulling out on the highway.
Check trailer lights, adjust mirrors
Where ever you pull into always have an exit plan before pulling in.
Be mindful of low bridges and tree branches. Plan your route ahead of time.
Watch out for them curbs!
If you forget its back there it will remind you, often not in a nice manner.
Since your new fiver is quite long be mindful when the trailer pivots as you're turning to the right or left as the far backend corners can clip a nearby post or other vehicle if you have limited clearance. Been bit by that one before while exiting my backyard pad.

Nice rig! Happy trails & good luck.

One thing I like to do when hooking the fiver is once the gear comes off the ground is get in the truck and pull forward a few feet and hit the trailer brakes, make sure the hitch is latched, then put it the rest of the way up. What game you going to see?

Beware of your 6.7 wanting to go 80 plus MPH when you really aren't interested in going that fast with 12,000 lbs in tow.

That's a pull test, right?

This is University of Michigan!

We wanted to go to the Notre Dame game, night, last one or a while, but tickets are crazy thousands each. So we will go to the Akron game.stadium will be full anyhow.

Check your tires for speed rating. They probably will be ST and speed rated at 65 MPH. People have a lot of trailer tire problems, most from overloading or speed.

Thx.i am getting the LT G614 Goodyears, rated at 75.

I think this speed problem is why we have trouble on my car hauler. Might change to 17.5's on the car hauler
