ive got a 2000 v-10 excursion with 111k. Never had a problem like this before but last week I was driving home an noticed the theft light blinking while I was driving. Got home shut it off. next morning went to start it and nothing! when the DOORS open it makes a clicking noise under the dash. if I jump it the truck will start right up. If the batt is disconnected them re-connected it will start once until turned off and then nothing. I ve got an elk hunt in 2 weeks and need to figure it out! ANY help would be greatly appreciated fellas, Thanks!! <!-- / message -->
I've been chasing an issue with my auto headlights not working (coming on when its dark) and there are a lot of issues that can be caused by a faulty VSM (vehicle security module I think) or a GEM. I haven't figured out what GEM stands for yet. I also don't know if your car will have a VSM or a GEM or both or what but from what I've been reading trying to figure out my problem, you might have something wrong with one of these (VSM or GEM). They cause no starts, no power door locks, no auto headlights, door ajar lights, all kinds of things.

This is a key piece of info.
Earlier this year I drove mine home from the repair shop and parked it in my driveway. Went to start it a half hour later to pick up the kids and nothing would happen. I had to call a tow truck!! Ridiculous.
Long story short: the battery was on its last leg. Not dead, but barely alive.
New battery and problem solved. Oh and this was two DAYS before a trip to Grand Canyon!!
