Looking for help!!! 2000 excursion V-10. I parked the truck, went back to start it and all my gauges blink, and the number one relay under the dash (interior light relay) begins clicking. The truck will not even crank. The relay will continue clicking (even with the key off) until you remove and replace the relay. sometimes I will get absolutely nothing when I turn the key. I have tried jumping the battery, no change. Also tried starting it in neutral to trouble shoot the NSS, but it won't even click when in neutral. I checked battery connection, and followed the battery cables to look for a short but found nothing. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I recently had the exact same issue and it was battery related.
I ended up putting a battery charger on slow charge for about an hour, then bumped up the charging rate for another half hour or so before all those clicking relays stopped going crazy.
Trying to boost the battery didn't work which is why I resorted to the battery charger.
Relays clicking like that indicates a severe low voltage situation. Those batteries are damaged from the voltage being that low and should be replaced. After replacing them find out if you have a drain somewhere by having the negative cable disconnected and putting an ammeter between the negative battery cable and the negative post of the battery. More than 50 milliamps is likely a problem unless there's some reasonable aftermarket reason.
On my way to Maine last month, my Ex started the same thing - relays clicking and lights flashing. Hell, leaving the radio on or door open for less than 5 minutes required a jump start. New battery solved it.
