Installing a new crate 351w motor into my 96 bronco as well as new distributor. My question is what are instructions for installing new distributor on motor?
You have to find top dead center on number 1 cylinder. If you have never done this before its not rocket science but it does have to be right. After you find t.d.c. align rotor button with distributor cap on number 1. Drop distributor into block. May have to pull it and back it up a tooth or 2 to get it to line up . Make sure to get the oil pump drive shaft lined up and into distributor shaft correctly.

What is procedure to find TDC on number 1 cylinder ?
Thanks.
Pull the number 1 spark plug. Turn engine over until you get to the compression stroke, once you have it on comp stroke keep turning until the piston is at the top of the stroke. You can stick a screwdriver or something similar into the hole and tell when the piston stops moving, just before it starts to travel downward in its stroke. It will help to remove all the plugs to make it easier to turn motor without having to fight compression. Just go real slow when nearing the top on the comp stroke.
you should also get yourself a haynes manual. Youtube also has great videos on doing this sort of thing.
dont forget to prime the oil pump, this is very important. also dont start with synthetic motor oil for at least the first 3000 miles.
why are you changing distributors? your motor has a roller cam as well so making sure you have a steel gear on the dizzy you buy is extremely important.
