Yes, gen 7 (80-86), gen 8 (87-91) and gen 9 (92-96) are interchangeable. I think there is one fender bolt that needs some creativity between generations, but it will work. Usually folks are going the other way, and putting a gen 9 front clip on an older truck. Be advised, however, that the radiator support is different from gas to diesel, and between diesels with the tall style radiator vs the wide style. If the 89 clip is not from a diesel, or has the wrong radiator type you might still need to source the correct gen 8 radiator core support for your truck.
