Guys, noticed last night my cruise control isn't engaging and there is no indicator light in the dash. Search function isn't wanting to cooperate on my IPAD. Can anyone point me in a direction of where to start looking for a fix? Thanks.
It could be the Brake Pressure switch on the master cylinder. Have you had the recall for this done? Here is a PDF file for troubleshooting the Speed Control system. Speed Control.pdf Scroll down a few pages and you will see where you can enter a KOEO self test of the system that will deliver flash codes.
Roland, I'll check out the document, but I wanted to quickly respond that I have not had any recalls done on my truck. I have never let the dealership touch my baby!
Brake light switch mounted at the top of the pedal has a set of contacts in it for cruise. I know this only because my truck sat for about a yr before I got it and one of the first things I had to do was replace the switch. Seals had shrunk and brake fluid had run down the shaft into the cab and made a mess of wiring and switch. First one I got from auto parts store worked for brake lights but cruise wouldn't work. Second one was fine.
OK guys, I know I asked this question a few months back, but I'm just now getting around to trying to troubleshoot the issue. Here is all I've come up with so far:
1) The third brake light at the top of the cab is functioning normally.
2) The transmission doesn't seem to be shifting erratically, so does that rule out the VSS on the rear diff?
3) When I tried to run the KOEO diagnotic test, the very first step of holding down the CC Off button while turning the key to the ON position did nothing, the CC light in the instrument panel did not flash a single time - indicating to me a failure to enter the diagnostic mode.
One thing I failed to mention before, is that right about the same time that I noticed that the CC wasn't working, I also noticed that 1 of the 4 positions on the electric mirror switch quit working as well. I can move my mirrors up, down, and left, but not right, just in case there's some odd-ball correlation between the two that I've never heard of.
I peaked up at the plug at the top of the brake pedal lever, and without starting to take things apart, everything looked to still be connected and there wasn't any brake fluid running down as was mentioned in a previous post.
What can I look for on the brake pressure swith at the master cylinder? Anything in particular that would show a problem there?
Jesser, that was my exact problem. I had knocked the plug loose when I was doing some other work a few of months ago. What's screwy is that there is a dummy plug on another harness that is for trucks without cruise control to have somewhere to plug that wire into so it's not just dangling loose in the compartment. I had plugged it into the dummy plug when I found it hanging loose back when I was buttoning things up from the other work a few months ago. I went to my buddy's place to look at his configuration and it was immediately apparent what I had done. Anyways, thanks again for the help. The CC will come in really handy on a trip to Florida next week!
