I have a weird issue maybe someone can help with.
95 f350 4x4 5.8 auto trans. It seems to have a lack of power or maybe a miss in lower rpm's and low gears.
(I think there is a slight miss with very little throttle then clears up with a little more throttle but, seems to run ok).
Then speeding up to get on the highway all the sudden it will set you back in the seat at higher rpm's in higher gears. You can feel the power! Not sure if it's normal or not? Transmission shifts and seems to pull fine in all gears. Any thoughts?
Check for stored codes. If not familiar with pulling codes, visit www.fordfuelinjection.com
There are links to a wealth of information, including using a paper clip to pull codes for free. I bought the Equus code reader. It displays the stored codes, present problems, and numerous other tests.

Thanks timbersteel, cleared codes 2 months ago, ran new scan no codes. that's why it's weird
Well, that's enough to bum ya out... Good there isn't codes stored. Next item to test would be fuel pressure. When was the last time the fuel filter changed? Dual tanks? Does it it occur on both tanks or not if equipped with dual tanks?
Just a few more suggestions... Hope this can help ya.

Amen to that LOL!! Has dual tanks, replaced fuel pump on the rear tank. pressure is good all around replaced filter when I replaced pump.
Been this way as long as I have had it. Not sure there is a problem, but seems to have much more power at higher gears and rpm. If you are getting on the highway and all the sudden, almost acts like a 4 barrel carb opens up all 4 and you get that power you can feel.
Are you sure it's a 351? Almost sounds like how a 302 would act. They'll throw you back and fly at higher RPM's when they hit their power band, but kind of sliggish off the line. A 351 makes good low end torque where the 302 does not. Take a closer look, both engines are Windsors and look the same. Take some measurements. A 5.8 intake technically shouldn't work on a 5.0, but I'm sure it's possible. Could be that somebody dropped in a 302 and tried to reuse 351 parts.
EDIT: Before someone says a 351 intake won't physically fit a 302, I meant upper intakes. Could be a 5.0 lower and 5.8 upper. The ports aren't the same shape but it'll bolt on and look normal on the outside.

Yes it's a new 351 put in a few months ago. It runs good, maybe that's the way it is. Just seems weird to me LOL!
When mine puts me back in the seat, I know it's time to upshift. (@2K) Going up mountains, I might have to drop back to 3rd, and when I tow my StarCraft popup, I rarely go into 5th. Other than that, I occasionally pull tractor trailers out of situations where they block the scales or fuel pumps when they break down...

Thanks hrddrv, I guess mine is operating correctly. It will pull a house down the road no problem LOL! it doesn't know the difference....
Could be normal, I personally love the high revving 302, so I don't have enough experience with 351's to say one way or the other. Another thing to possibly look at is gearing, might be geared a little too high.

Don't know about the gearing, stock automatic transmission and rear end tho......
It sounds like you may need to double check your timing. Does it idle rough? Are the emissions components in place and functioning normally? Is the EGR valve hooked up? The emissions systems are quite complex on these truck and can cause vacuum leaks if not hooked up or hooked up improperly, and that WOULD cause the issues you are having.

What he said. Mine did that since I bought it, but I have a 351. Got tired of it, went and picked up a brand new timing light and found my base timing way retarded. Not surprising, considering some of the other things I've found that the PO had "fixed" or "adjusted". Set it back to 10° and all was well. Advanced it a bit more til she started pinging under load, backed off a bit... perfect. Before, it wouldn't do much if I punched it from a stop, now she'll light up the 31x10.50's... not that I do it often but I did have to test out my newly reclaimed power.
Also, does your truck have a MAF sensor? Might be time to clean it.
