update the 72 mounts I ordered from Napa bolted up to the block and engine is sitting in the truck now to the next problem how to connect the clutch linkage

I'm doing the same swap, only with an 85 300, into a 1970 f100. what motor did you originally run?

I have the motor in now, but have clearance issues for the clutch fan and radiator. did you ever have that issue?

The truck used to have a 302 according ti vin# - no problems with the clutch fan but I am sure you can use a fan from a early 80 truck

Does it have the boss at the rear of the block to hold the end of the Z-bar? They may have eliminated that with the update that got rid of the mid dipstick location. You may have to make up a bracket and a short z-bar to go there, similar to what the 302 had.
I don't believe the 300 came with a clutch fan until the late 70s or early 80s, the newer one may be needed to get enough clearance.

Use the stock motor mounts for the '84 six. There is no difference between the six that was offered in the '72 and the six from the '84.

lmc makes an adapter that bolts to the back of the bellhousing so you hook up[ the z-bar for around 100 bucks
