I picked up my 04 Limited Excursion on Tuesday and after putting about 300 miles on her I have started to notice a knocking sound coming up from under the drivers side. It feels like something is banging underneith the chasis. Of course this would happen after I signed the paperwork and not on my 45 min test drive. Anybody have any recommendations? This is a 6.0 PSD, 4x4 with 107K on the odometer.
Need more specifics, is it all the time? When braking? Taking off? Over bumps? Start by checking front end, shocks etc. you may have the body mount under drivers side bad ( common problem on the Ex. And that's the one that usually goes bad first.

It will happen over good size bumps but cracks in the road do not cause issues. It doesn't happen all the time, no rhythm. It doesn't happen during take off or braking specifically, I can be cruising down the road and will hear it only a time or two. During bumpy conditions I tend to hear it more but not all the time. I did crawl under the X this evening and shook all the parts again, shocks included. Everything seems very tight, no play or wiggle.
I will check the body mount tomorrow, hopefully it will be an easy fix. I can add it to the day when I do the ball joints and front axle seals that started leaking today.
+1+2 on what EXv10 is saying, had the same sounds= sway bar ends
Yep.. What they said. Easy test without buying parts....
Disconnect the sway bar from the links and test drive... You should know fairly quick..
If when you disconnect the sway bar, check also if the sway bar mounts on the axle aren't shot as well. I replaced the sway bar end links and while that helped tremendously it did not eliminate ALL the noises. My suggestion, new end links and new SWAY BAR TO AXLE BUSHINGS.
Easy.. 2 beers tops.. unless you need some "away" time then you may as well grease the slip joint.... now you've gone to 3-4 beers...
