I have a 2014 3.5L Ecoboost Crewcab XTR. I need help. I had my upper and lower balljoints replaced by a Ford dealership and everything was fine. I got the alignment the next day and as soon as I drove it after the alignment there is now a clanking sound coming from the front left wheel well every time I hit tiny bumps; large bumps not so much.
The dealership tried to scam me out of $600 - saying they hooked some acoustic tool up to the left shock and that the front left shock was broken on the inside. I didn't trust them because they refused to admit the sound was caused by them. I went to a different shop and got aftermarket shocks and spring with lifetime warranty put into the vehicle.
The clanking sound is still there. I changed the brakepads and clips in case they were loose. The clanking sound is still there.
Best way I can describe it is similar to what the heat shield would sound like if it was banging around loose. I've had two mechanics put the truck up and they can't find anything loose. The clanking sound doesn't sound like it's something heavy like the caliper... it sounds VERY similar to the heat shield (which is bolted tightly and doesn't move).
Please help - I spent $940 figuring out I needed new tires and then another $3600 on my front end. I can't keep affording mechanic bills. Any ideas?
When the truck is cool, feel everything all the way down the exhaust. I’ve had the exhaust hangers come loose and make noise. Even the slightest looseness will cause noise. I have metal hose clamps around some of the heat shields to snug them up.
