no wrecks on the carfax, but it does look like the fan shroud has been replaced or hacked on at least...even the belt pathway sticker is nearly coming off with very little adhesive left.

need to go to the dealer for a new key anyway.

Lots of things are unreported to Carfax... You can even request that it's not reported when you have bodywork done...

Reasonable 2-way communication began with OBD-II between 1995-1996. CAN = Controller Area Network was phased in betwen 2006-2007.

Ford's entire product line was fully CAN-bus by 03 or 04, I forget which.

Torque App, with a functioning BT adapter and an android phone, will work on ANY Excursion, whether OBDII or OBDI. There is a free version you can use to test drive your BT adapter to see if it's worth springing a few bucks for the full app.

The emissions sticker is usually on the underside of the hood, above the general area of the radiator.

Torque app display of Mode $06 data on my truck:

VE screen shots of the entire Mode $06 data available:

You can see that both show misfire values in the registers for the #1 and #6 cylinders, one as a count, the other as a percentage.

none of my excursions have ever registered a misfire unless i unplugged a COP, even though they could have a very noticeable miss. thats 3 V10 non CA Ex's.

my expedition on the other hand, the slightest miss and the CEL lights up. amazing the difference lol

What is 'VE' ?
$55 and $56 fail.. which are those?
I've read some misfires are normal. They still pass so you might be changing cops when they are not needed.?

Please read previous posts in thread.

See OBDII manual for test IDs.

Misfires are not normal. Notice the other cylinders with zero misfires?

Open your hood and look up, not down. Emissions stickers are affixed to the underside of the hood, near where the latch would catch.

Here's mine on the Ex.

yessir, i did a pretty good examination of the engine bay both up and down.

theres nothing on the hood either...only sticker left that I see (other than the powerstroke emblem on the fan shroud) is the belt pathway.

Good to go. I just wanted to make sure you didn't limit your "look" to the fan shroud / jack equipment area.

I would have thought the o4 would detect a missfire better than the two older ones.

i had the same issues with COP's and plugs with the 2004 as i did with my 2002. both acted exactly the same. the only way the CEL would come on is when i unplugged a COP. otherwise they had a bad miss but no CEL.

that is part of the reason i shot gunned it and put all new motorcraft COP's and autolite double plat plugs.
