Hey everyone, I noticed my 2000 PSD EX is starting sluggish the last couple of days. Last time it sounded like this one of the batteries was no good, replaced it and everything was fine. that was a couple of years ago. So when I noticed it doing the same, i tested both batteries with a cca tester and the one I replaced 2 yrs ago was good, now it was the other one, so i bought a new battery today cleaned the K&N air filter and it still starts sluggish. The alternator and the starter have been replaced within the last year and half.
Any suggestions?
George
I'm having the same problem. Replaced both batteries and had the starter tested at Auto Zone. I did just get the truck back from having the transmission rebuilt.
just went thru this last week and so far so good.check amp output of alternater running on truck.my batteries tested good.and advanced said alt was good but running on truck was only putting out 50 amps.new alt and now it was putting out what it should.
Well guys, after checking everything out, it turned out to be the starter again. Good thing NAPA has a lifetime warrenty.(LOL) Is it just my truck or do other 7.3l eat up starters? This is the third one in 5.5 yrs.
what Ive learned here is, if you want to get out of the vicious cycle of replacing batteries ,starters, alternators. replace batteries in pairs & making sure your alternator is in good condition.replace starters & alternators with OEM units or better yet have a reputable shop rebuild for you.
Im experimenting with a Denso 2.5kw 028000 series [ not China reproduction ] gear reduction starter that my electrical Rebuilder talked me into.was not cheap,to early to brag on with only one years time.
If you replace one battery at a time you will chase the problem forever. Batteries MUST be replaced in pairs. Not just in our trucks, anything with more than one battery.
