I'm here.... yes, I did MAKE my own. Didn't buy a ready made. Just bought a couple of Male/Female electrical plugs/receptacles and a roll of wire. Cut a few needed wires to required circuits needed to make truck run, soldered 'em through the plugs and just take the plugs with me when the truck is sitting. No way anyone can decipher what wires go where in a short time. If someone drives up in a rollback, it's still stolen tho.... Just like any key, it keeps honest people honest. In my case, there's always another vehicle EASIER to steal.
When I bought my truck I purchased the Ford remote start that had an alarm with it. It disables the engine when the alarm is activated and honks the horn when tripped. I cursed up and down at the $600.00 cost at the time. However last October some POS tried to take it off my drive way, they punched the passenger door lock and the alarm activated scaring him off. Now that $600.00 just paid for itself and I'm no longer bitching. After that and out of curiosity I activated the alarm and opened the door to set the alarm off. I then used the key to try and start the engine and it would not start, the ignition would just turn. I also use a club but I have tinted windows and I don't think dirt bag would have been able to see it n the dark. So I guess my point is why complicate it by trying to bypass the FICM or other components? Other than maybe being cheaper, why not get a system that is designed to work with your trucks system?
I asked about a Ford system for my truck but guess what. They are out of stock and no
longer make it.
The reason for the question is to get the ideas for maybe a home brew version of the Ravelco
system. If you know what systems to kill and with our trucks hiding the wiring would not be
to hard because it's everywhere. The true key would be making a clean splice and covering it
up so it's hard to detect and trace. The thought of taking out more than one critical system is
to make it much harder to get the truck to start at all.
Here is a funny idea. Back in the 80's there was a story about a guy that had a Custom VW Bug
show car try of deal. He had installed all sort of cool electric things and had a lot of money it it.
He setup his alarm system so that if it was taken it would roll up the electric windows and lock
the doors. For the outside alarm because everyone was getting them he did something different
from a siren. He put a set of speakers in it than when the alarm went off the car would scream RAPE.
Now that would get you looking to see someone trapped in a car with the car screaming RAPE
Yes the guy could kick out a window but people WOULD be looking. You all know how lookieloos are.

Sean
That's a pretty good story Sean.
You know what would be neat, is if there was something we could set s/w wise through the ODBII port and you had an encryption key on your side to match the one in the truck. Why don't the manufacturers do this? Hell I bet a tuner could...
I'd rather interrupt a signal wire the computer uses to know when to tell the starter to crank.
a wire run up to the overhead console with a switch inside the sunglass holder door.
I'd rather not have an idiot cranking the truck . the engine/ficm/injectors are finicky.
Use a two pole switch, and when you disable the engine make a "key on" circuit power the horn.

I generally put an ignition cut off on my gassers .A start interrupt is what I do on oil burners . I make all my own . Simple, hidden , cheep peace of mind .

I think that they called that the PATS system. I never had problems
with mine and would be very happy with one and more.
eBay has a guy that bought a huge amount of ravelcos from a defunct business (or so the story goes) and sells them for $50. The company will not support their use, so no spare "keys" or help with installs. If you are handy however it could save you $450. They look legit but ??? The ravelco website absolutely condemns them however.

All 3 sellers @ $50 each (2 with best offer) have 100% feedback.... Two have perfect english and "stories" to go with why they are selling so cheap, the third.... well they could use more english lessons...
But maybe the units work...
Didn't the Chinese take an F150 and duplicate it for outside of US markets??
I like the little window sticker with the crosshairs that says "smile and wait for the flash..."
Ya' really think I'd share on an open forum what I do to keep the truck where I left it?! Maybe if you had this in a members only area or something...
If one were to run a circuit (or two) in series through more than one and less than four of the up-fitter switches, that could take the average thief longer than he wants, even if he knew it was the switch combo that did it...
then again just a flashing led will deter most idiots.
