Hey guys, new guy here, how you all doing? I have a 92 F150 ext cab with a E4OD transmission that dies on me when I put it in reverse. In drive, I have no problems, but as soon as I put it in R, the idle goes down below 1000 and dies. I was told to check the modulator or something to that effect but it turns out my version does not have it! Could someone please help me? Thanks in advance!
The E4OD is completely computer controlled, so the first order of business it to see if there are any trouble codes stored.... As most codes can make the E4OD go into limp mode, then all kinds of strange things start to happen..
Thanks for the welcome and help! I went ahead and did the codes and I get that the EGR valve position sensor - signal voltage higher than expected (closed valve position). No other codes come out, would this be the issue?
Replaced the EGR Valve and now get more codes, but all pertaining to the EGR Valve, wow! Anyways, working on both issues and any help would be appreciated!
Your trans. is low on ATF, this causes the filter to fall inside the pan, which is a known cause of the symptom you describe. Measure the level while the truck is at operating temp while idling in Park. You can also check the E4OD mods link in mi sig, it should be an interesting reading.
There is also an updated filter if I remember correctly, so that it cannot fall to the bottom of the pan and cause this problem. Some people have had luck just affixing a magnet or welding a nut to the pan below the filter to act as a spacer to keep it in place and off the bottom of the pan.
