Acceleration issue

So I noticed this on the way back from Pismo/SLO about two weekends ago and its done it a couple times since then.

I was driving along the highway at 65 and noticed I started slowing down so I put my foot into the gas more to get back up to speed and felt it downshift. I got it back to 65 and it wouldn't shift back up so I gave some more gas and it starting revving really high then shifted pretty hard once I hit about 70. it doesn't do it unless I'm driving it on the highway for at least 30ish minutes. If I run to Hanford which is about 20 minutes from base (speed limit 65) down 198 she shifts and runs just fine. Also, the truck doesn't have a tachometer.

I apologize for lack of in-depth info, but I don't know how else to really explain it.

Thanks for any help!

Did he switch over all the electronics for the E4OD? I think the computer needed to be changed along with the VSS in the rear axle but I am not sure. I don't have a lot of experience with these transmissions. Have you checked the fluid recently/what's the condition of it?

agreed,

to turn over drive off on that model you would have a button to push either on the dash or on the end of the gear shift.

then you more than likely still have an AOD. the E40d is controlled by the computer and various other sensors to even shift properly.

take and post a picture of the trans pan. see if there is any identification numbers.

if you had been playing down at pismo in the sand its very possible you got the tranny reallyhot and possibly burned it up. the AOD isnt known for taking abuse. having the tranny fluid replaced and filter would be next step

Also I just looked up the VIN, and the 302 isn't the original motor, it used to have the I6. The tranny is the AOD.
