No, this whole hood was rode hard and put up wet. (kinda like the rest of the truck) It's just as I get it smoother, the easier it is to notice areas that aren't right. I have the front edge to do and I found a few more dents in it. I have to go back to the hammer and dolly to get these ripples out of the front of the hood. It's really bad. It almost looks like the truck was rolled with this hood on it. Yes, ...it's THAT bad.
Chip, ....I know, it doesn't make me any happier. At least I'm glad I caught it before I painted it. I had the light shining just the right way last night to see everything.
Rich. Don't worry about it. It's not worth the fuel to drive down here for a few hours of body work. I'll straighten it out.
At least I did not want it painted black lol. I got the black leather seat and found a black dash pad in the JY today with NO cracks, I will get it tomorrow.
Rich. The black thing doesn't even apply. If you wanted me to paint it black, I would. The same amount of body work goes into a white truck as a black truck. (at least in this shop it does)
Guide coat is not a substitute for sensitive hands and a two good eyes, well one good eye in my case. Alice is proof of the quality of your work. Rich's Old Red will be even better.
Wow. Everyone says Alice's body work is good. I think it looks horrible. I just slapped a coat of paint on her with the understanding I would go back and do it right someday. Rich's truck will definitely be straighter than Alice.
Ok, here's some progress. I got the hood fixed and everything wet sanded. I put another coat of primer on the hood and roof. Tomorrow morning I plan on doing the final wet sand, touch up a few things and start laying color down! Woo Hoo!
Here's what I have now....
I got about 95% of the uglies out of the body, but there are still a few ripples here and there. It should look ok for a driver.
Here's where the big hole was in the roof. This actually came out decent.
This is the 5th round of dolly and mud work on the hood. All of this is around 1/16"-1/8" thick, so it'll last even though it's on the hood.
After the last primer before wet sanding and color.....
