Problems changing fuel filter.

The can holding the filter on the frame busted when I was trying to remove it. The "nut" the socket fits on broke right off. Had a heck of a time removing the rest of it. Used a pipe wrench but it turned hard all the way. Any one else had this problem? New one was about $25 but I had to dig the old one out of the trash and remove two parts off of it. The yellow drain was not included with the new one and the piece the electrical connection goes into wasn't included. Easy to remove the old ones and reinstall. Now, if I can just get the truck started I'll be happy. Yes, it would not start. Didn't have the new one screwed all the way in when I started it up. Truck ran about 2 seconds then died and will not restart. I tightened the can up, cycled the pump about 30 times but still won't start. I called the dealer and was told it may have thrown a "low fuel pressure" code and if it did it will have to be cleared before it will start. Disconnected the batteries and turned the ignition key on for about a minute. A guy in a parts store told me this would clear the code without a code reader. But by now the batteries were dead so I'll have to wait until morning after the batteries are charged before I'll know if it will start. What a day.

Your not the first guy here to report problems with removing the primary filter bowl. Before I do mine again I will have one on the shelf to assure mine will never break.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. FOMOCO needs a better design on the fuel bowl. I use a strap wrench and a ratchet on the big nut. It's always a guessing game when the sucker is going to break. I ordered a spare canister a few months ago and keep it under the back seat in the storage hold. Hope she starts for ya.

I figured I was going to break that nut it was so tight the first change I did. I ended up using a vise grip chain, gripping the entire bowl to remove it.

Have you looked to see if you tripped the fuel cutoff switch? that happened to me one time.

diffrent motor but thought I would throw that out there.

I hope they do something about this before it is time for me to buy one of these.

Check the stops

When I did my fuel filter change I did not tighten it the whole way. It leak air in the system and caused the same problem type of problem. Make sure the two stop are touching.

Follow up to problem changing the fuel filter.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the problem with not starting was due to the fact I did not have the bowl screwed all the way in. Lacked one thread not having it all the way. After disconnecting the batteries and turning on the ignition, and letting the battery charger run all night, it started right up this morning. I am going to have another bowl on hand the next time I change the filter. Lesson learned.

a strap wrench works well (rather than the socket on the bottom) for removal. I kept wanting to add that, but have been forgetting.

I broke my strap wrench when I attempted my first change, lol. Would have snapped the nut for sure it was so tight. So I bought one these vise grip chains. Works awesome.

I just let the Ford dealer do it. They break something, they fix it.

I use both. Socket and strap wrench.
Has worked so far but you have to be patient with removal, it is on there tight.

I am apparently very slow at it then.
Turn to trip the check valve, allow to drain for several minutes, slowly and carefully remove bowl, remove oring, clean bowl and inspect old filters for a minute, open box, replace oring, replace filter, reinstall.
