2014 questions

Ok a few quick questions about ordering a 2014.

Is the dual alternator worth it or is the heavy duty one ok?

Is the ford navigation system worth it? I've only had XLT's but thinking of a lariat. Nice to have the nav in case I forget mine.
Thinking of ordering the Ford 5th wheel package, any thoughts on it. Will be my first 5th wheel hitch.

I too was on the fence over the dual alternatives option, went with the hd single, see how it works long term. Far as the hitch, I highly recommend the prep option. Reese and B&W both have hitches ( may be more now, I went with Reese), both get good reviews here. My thoughts on nav is if you tend to leave the stock sound system in place you will enjoy it's benefits and features.

Don't forget rear fender liners if truck and not cc, fender moldings all round in the trim package to prevent rust and chipping paint, stock mud flaps for those fender liners and trim.

Agree with Nav, if you don't change the stereo out. Otherwise you can customize with this deleted on your own and build in Nav ECT.

Agree with hitch prep, hitch itself you can shop for unless they deal on hitch price for the Reese.

Cab chassis you can get the dual tanks, bit de-tuned still I think. But you get to build a custom deck and hitch decisions are all yours to make and you can outfit the way you want. Down size is no higher than lariat trim either.

Some things to think about for sure.

I know one of the issues with previous dual alternator installations was that you had to remove radiator hoses to replace belt. The single alternator didn't have that problem. Not sure if it's still that way on the 6.7.

Awesome guys. I forgot about the wheel liners.

The stereo that have for it now is the sirius productivity screen one for the XLT, but the lariat offers the nav. I didn't intend on replacing the head unit if I ended up getting the sync.

Decisions, decisions. The problem is there is so many configurations it' tough figuring out which ones to choose and not end up with a $100,000 truck.

The only issue I have with the stock factory radio unit system is not being able to play movies on the radio. My kenwood had the safety feature disabled so my wife could watch them in front while driving.

That would be the only reason I would get rid of it. But I think I might stay with the OEM unit.

I agree about the 5th wheel package. I'm not a big fan of the nav unit though, all the bells and whistles are fun but the Navigation unit itself leaves a lot to desire. I use a Garmin unit on my dirt bike and I still bring it along on road trips in the truck and love it. I am thinking of upgrading to one of the Kenwood units with the integrated Garmin GPS interface.

You can also get the Ford Lockpick to disable the safety features of the factory Sync.

No real changes. 2014 MY is already in production. Order guides have been out since mid-May. Function is more important anyway. When they redesign it, price will jump and everyone will bitch about them fixing what wasn't broke.

Nav

I don't like the audio or the NAV that ford puts in the truck. I went after market better sound better nav and save some money.

I went with Kenwood / Garmin Nav and JL audio for the rest.

I wish I have the prep package from ford for the hitch.

With Ford Navigation system come nice integrated features, if you care.
I really like the bulit in Sirius with a feature showing gas prices in the area and if you have diesel, it is preset to show current diesel prices.

If you are going to tow a fifth wheel, the fifth wheel package is well worth it. I tow both a fifth wheel and a gooseneck. When I am not towing I take everything out and the bed is clean with no rails.

I have the Nav system, and I like it better than our Garmin. I use the street map that you can have up all the time more than the Nav itself. After plugging my 5th wheel into the under bumper plug on old truck the prep package is so much better. I have dual alternators but cannot tell whether they are any better than a single.

Well we finally pulled the trigger on a 2014.

It's a 2014 Lariat 6.7 DRW in blue jean mettalic.
I got the 5th wheel prep and reese 25k hitch.
I also added the Lariat ultimate package to it.

They are going to pull my transfer flow tank off the old truck and swap
it to the new truck along with the amp power steps, my light bar, bull bar and the train horns.
I'll have to have the new truck linex'd and also the windows tinted and the headrest dvd players added. They gave me an extra $2,000 for the trade if I left my old ones plus the kenwood head unit in it.

I'm not a huge fan of leather but we use seat covers anyways especially with 4 little ones in it.
Looks like it'll be 6-7 weeks before it's in. Now it's like that 8 yr. old at christmas feeling.

Couldn't have gotten it finished without the help here from you guys. Thank you for all the tips, and suggestions.
