too much black smoke?
I've replaced the Injectors, IP, return lines. and also the throttle position sensor. It seems like when the truck shifts into fourth (I think) the engine seems to lag and I blow a lot of black smoke. Is this normal? If not whats the fix?
remember the fuel screw and the timing both need to be dialed in when receiving a freshly reman ip.
sounds like the fuel is up too high for the amount of air in/out your providing the engine with and the lag when it enters OD or lockup likely means the timing is off.
be sure to adjust your fuel screw (personally i like 0% smoke in mirrors under WOT,this means i can use all my pedal under any condition without worry of melting pistons and wasting fuel) and then set the timing last.
the lag during lockup or od (whichever one it is) could also be due to a maladjusted FIPL/TPS too.
did you follow the latest technical bulletin 186a to set it correctly?
also I tried to adjust the TPS but wasnt coming up with the exact voltage readings listed. (I guess I was just satisfied the O/D off light wasnt flashing)

don't settle just cus the ecm is happy enough to not toss a code.it's well worth the effort to dial it in:

Now I only get the black smoke when I'm really getting on it,
How much do you think I should back the fuel screw out? or is it a trial and error type thing? Thanks in advance
if the smoke clears up but you notice a loss of performance, then you could turn it back up another half flat as long as the pyro gauge says it's ok when towing.
