hey guys, I've got a couple different problems. The first one is that no matter what setting I have it on, air only blows out of the defrost vent.. does anybody know why this is happening? or is there already a thread about this? i saw a thread for this same problem, but it was for 2nd gen explorers.
the second problem I have is that there always seems to be air blowing from somwhere on the passenger side, unless i am accelerating. i can't seem to find where it is coming from but it makes a really annoying noise.
oh and it is the 4.6L, AWD. not sure if that matters or not tho.
if anybody can help me with either of these problems, i will be very appreciative!! thanks in advance!
The comment that air always seems to be blowing unless you're accelerating and that fact that the air only blows out the defrost vent is indicative of a vacuum leak. Either the vacuum hose for the HVAC has become disconnected or it cracked. With the engine running, search for the source of that really annoying noise and you'll find the vacuum hose issue.
As for if it matters that you have the 4.6L and AWD, not so much for this post. However, confirmation that your Explorer has the manual (****) controls versus the Electronic Automatic Temperature Controls (EATC) or Dual Automatic Temperature Controls (DATC) would be relevant. The manual controls are pretty much all vacuum driven. The EATC and DATC use electric servos.
