This topic has been touched on in previous threads, but I have a little of a different question. My a/c and heat are fine temperature-wise, but the vents keep switching on me. For instance, if I have the button turned to Max A/c it will blow fine for a minute, then all of the sudden switch to the defroster and the floor vents. No matter what the setting, when it decides to go crazy it always switches to the Mixed setting (defrost/floor). Also, no matter if it is set on recycled air max a/c or not, the system always sucks in air from the outside as if it was just on vent. I'm wondering if it is not whichever vaccum controls the mixed setting. Any ideas?
A vacuum leak. The vents are opened by vacuum and a leak somewhere will cause problems. Check all vacuum hoses - also check the vacuum canisters (coffee cans) for leaks.
Thanks so much for the tips. I figured it was a vacuum leak. I guess I'll buy one of those cheap readers and see if I can't find exactly where the problem is.
I had this problem a few months ago, you might chech the vaccum line under the hood on the passager side going to the small vaccum motor right above the heater core. This is the on which control the inside/outside air flow. On my 93' Bronce and 83' F350 this line was bad(due to heat). If bad Ford designed air flow to be redirected to defrosters and floor. Hope this helps..
